Tara Releases “Cigarettes and Gin”
Brummie song-bird Tara has released new single “Cigarettes and Gin”.
It wasn’t that long ago that Tara was being courted by the legendary founder of Atlantic Records, Ahmet Ertegan (Ertegan launched the careers of many many artists including Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles and Led Zeplin). Having worked with an array of legendary musicians and producers, it all seemed to be heading in the right direction. Tara’s fledgling career was then derailed somewhat when her biggest supporter and mentor Ahmet Ertegan died suddenly. Tara decided to withdraw from performing and concentrate on writing.
A decade later and having just become a mother, Tara is back performing. 2014 was the year that Tara felt the call to perform again and she began writing new material. Despite impending motherhood, Tara carried on working and “Cigarettes and Gin” is her first new offering. If anything, Tara’s voice has become even smoother and more touching. A heady brew of soul and jazz, Tara’s voice would sit happily beside her main influences…..Carole King, Dusty Springfield, Billie Holiday, Etta James, Patsy Cline, Tammy Wynette and Stevie Nicks.
“Cigarettes and Gin” is a beautifully touching journey through heartbreak and trying to forget.
Being a mother and relaunching her performing career are keeping Tara busy, but she wouldn’t have it any other way.
